27th anniversary of Independence of Neutral TURKMENISTAN

It is indeed a celebration of the 27th anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan a significant and festive date, the most important event of the Turkmen state.

Turkmenistan is an Independent Neutral country that carries out constructive policy, creates new conditions for development of friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with all interested countries.

Under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Turkmen state is aimed at transforming our Motherland from agrarian country into industrially developed country with diversified economy and production of competitive export-oriented hi-tech products, while ensuring political stability and nationwide unity.

Development of small and medium private entrepreneurship continues in the country. Currently, the share of non-state sector in the GDP of the country, not taking into account oil and gas sector, reached 68%. Members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs make a significant contribution to ensuring trade abundance of internal market, diversification of economy, and strengthening of export potential of the country.

Annually, salaries, pensions, state benefits and student allowances are increased by 10 percent. Main part of the State budget funds are directed towards development of education, healthcare, social services, housing and utility systems, as well as pension provision.

Currently, construction of large industrial facilities in oil & gas, chemical and processing industries, energy complex, agriculture, textile, transport & communication, trade and services sectors are developing at high rates. Our country moves phase-by-phase to “green economy”. Environmentally safe and energy-saving modern technologies are used in construction.

The work on environmental protection, rational use of land, biological and water resources is carried out, systemic measures on combating desertification and forest degradation are undertaken in the country.

Over the years of independence, spheres of education, science and technologies also experienced transformations. Currently, 509 new educational establishments equipped with innovative technologies and multimedia devices are functioning in our country.

One of the most important goals is the development of tourism industry, development of international cooperation in the sphere of tourism and travel. In this context, it should be noted that the “Awaza” tourism zone, located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, has turned into a world class resort.

The Fifth Asian Games, and “Amul-Hazar” international auto rally, held at high level, made Turkmenistan known in the world as a country capable of conducting such large scale sport tournaments at the international level.

Over the years of independence, the first national artificial satellite has been launched into the space, which enabled a wide use in the economy of the most modern means of communication, digital television and Internet.

One of the foreign policy priorities of Turkmenistan is cooperation with international organizations. Turkmenistan is an author of important international initiatives on such vital issues as ensuring energy security, creation of international transport-transit corridors and environmental protection that received broad support in the world. Turkmenistan is also an active supporter of development of interstate relations on issues of ecology in the region.

In this context, a particular attention is attached by the President of Turkmenistan to environmental aspect, as an integral factor of global sustainable development.

In 2017-2019 Turkmenistan chairs in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. President of Turkmenistan has put forward an initiative on adoption of the UN Special Programme on Aral Sea that would include specific plans for stabilization and improvement of the situation in the Aral Sea basin. We also invite the European Union and interested parties to a joint work aimed at broad international cooperation on saving the Aral Sea.

Turkmenistan persistently promotes an idea of joint development of formats of political and economic cooperation in Central Asia and Caspian Sea region, proposes and supports major projects with participation of various states, international organizations and companies.

Given that this year is held under a slogan “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road”, development of an initiative of the President of Turkmenistan - the concept of restoration of energy and transport routes along the Great Silk Road in a modern format has an important meaning for stable trade and economic well-being of our region.

The work on implementation of a large energy project – construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (TAPI) is underway, as well as Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) power transmission line, “Lapis-Lazuli” transport corridor covering a route stretching from Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey is also being worked on, development of  “Central Asia-Middle East” transport corridor project continues. Moreover, this year, new International Sea Port in the city of Turkmenbashi has been commissioned and put into operation.

Today Turkmenistan actively and consistently implements the strategy for strengthening good-neighbourly, friendly and mutually-beneficial relations both with regional countries, and with other countries of the world.

We can note that the cooperation of our country with the European Union is positively developing. Joint projects, formats and dialogues of cooperation, that continue to support and strengthen relations between Turkmenistan and the EU, are actively working. We are interested in consolidation of joint efforts for development of transport, energy, and agricultural infrastructure, as well as in security issues including combating contemporary challenges. Mutual interest in the above-mentioned areas was also expressed in the course of a recent visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan led by H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In the European direction, Turkmenistan attaches high importance to the development of political and diplomatic, trade and economic and cultural and humanitarian relations with the Kingdom of Belgium, political foundations of which were laid on 1 February 1993. We are pleased to note that this year both countries mark a jubilee date – the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.

In this context, years of fruitful and mutually-beneficial cooperation and the recent working visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan led by H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the results of a meeting with his colleague H.E. Mr. Didier Reinders, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Federal State Service of Foreign Affairs, External Trade and Cooperation Development of the Kingdom of Belgium have once again vividly demonstrated the efforts of the two countries towards a mutually-beneficial and close cooperation, both in bilateral and multilateral formats.”  www.belcikaaydinhaber.com
